Steinbach Christian School expands with new classrooms and bus route
Steinbach Christian School (SCS) is making big strides this school year with new classrooms, new staff and its first official bus route to help students get to school more easily. Bus routes After consulting with families from surrounding areas, SCS implemented a bus route to and from Niverville and Blumenort — offering reliable and accessible transportation to students. Principal and CEO of SCS, Thor Barkman, says the response from students and families has been overwhelmingly positive. “For families to be able to have that regular pick up and drop off, it allows them to maintain other priorities in their lives and still get their kids here. People are very appreciative of the effort to make that happen,” Barkman says. The new service has already seen a strong uptake, with 37 students riding the bus this year. “We’re getting familiar with what we’re doing and making sure we get kids to school reliably.” Facility expansions To accommodate the school’s growing population, SCS also completed renovations and expansions, ready just in time for the fall semester. “That allowed us to accept quite a few new students again this year,” Barkman explains. The project converted existing space into five new classrooms and a digital media lab. New staff In addition to facility upgrades and new bus routes, SCS welcomed several new teachers this year, consistent with its annual hiring of five to seven teaching staff. “The new teachers are doing a fantastic job fitting in and adding to the school. I’m very happy to have more great teachers join us here,” notes Barkman. With new routes, renovated classrooms, additional staff and more growth on the horizon, the Steinbach Christian School is looking ahead to an exciting year.
