Southern Manitoba was pounded by rain, hail and strong winds on Wednesday.
The stormy weather started rolling into the region late in the afternoon. This prompted Environment Canada to issue a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Steinbach and area, as well as a Tornado Warning for areas to the north.
The storm dumped 18.7 millimetres (mm) of rain in Steinbach, as well as hail and produced wind speeds of 66 kilometres per hour (km/h).
Robyn Dyck is a Meteorologist with Environment Canada. She says they saw lots of pictures of funnel clouds, but do not have confirmation that any of them touched down.
Manitoba Agriculture is reporting the following rain amounts from the southeast for Wednesday:
- St. Labre - 29.5 mm
- Steinbach - 18.7 mm
- Beausejour - 13.1 mm
- Marchand - 8.1 mm
- Richer - 7.2 mm
- Dugald - 4.1 mm
- Vivian - 4.1 mm
- Stead - .3 mm
- Elma - .2 mm
- Gardenton - .2 mm
- Zhoda - .2 mm
Maximum wind speeds from the southeast for Wednesday were:
- Steinbach - 66 km/h
- St. Pierre - 43 km/h
- St. Labre - 41 km/h
Around the province, Manitoba Agriculture is reporting that Neepawa was hit hardest by rain with 42 mm. Other rain amounts include:
- Stonewall - 39.9 mm
- Ethelbert - 39.1 mm
- Keld - 34.0 mm
- Selkirk - 30.0 mm
- Amaranth - 25.5 mm
Maximum wind speeds around the province for Wednesday were:
- Stonewall - 68 km/h
- Brunkild - 56 km/h
- Clarkleigh - 50 km/h
Meanwhile, Environment Canada is calling for a mainly sunny sky on Thursday in Steinbach with a high of 29 degrees. Another round of showers or thunderstorms is forecast for Thursday evening.
