There is mixed reaction to word from the province last week that it will install traffic lights at the intersection of Highway #59 and Provincial Road 311 this summer. Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says it's a good start to what needs to be done there but is not the ultimate solution.

"Personally, together with council, we are grateful and thankful that the province recognizes this and is willing to put forward money to see something done there. We're very thankful for that. Having said that, this is a first step. Ideally, we still believe that twinning of Highway #59, in regards to the volume of traffic that flows down that road on a regular basis, is still the goal that needs to be achieved. But this is a significant first step."

Hanover Reeve Stan Toews agrees.

"This will certainly help but it does slow down your traffic, especially on #59 running north and south. We have to get some more upgrades there, at least up to the Highway #52 corner. We were thinking more of turning lanes and a better traffic flow."

The province has not yet announced a start date for installation of the traffic signals.
