Utility rates in Blumenort are on the rise for the first time in about 14 years.

Hanover Reeve Stan Toews says the Public Utilities Board (PUB) has approved the rate increase. That means Blumenort customers will pay on average an increase of $40 this year and an additional $40 next year.

Toews notes customers will also pay approximately $75 in order to make up for an operating loss in 2016. This will come as an additional bill to customers.

According to Toews, the PUB suggests a rate review every five years.
