Severe thunderstorms rolled through southern Manitoba Wednesday night, dumping heavy rain and hail in some parts.

Natalie Hasell with Environment Canada says Steinbach received about 20 millimetres of rain, while Sprague got 33 millimetres and Bissett as much as 70 millimetres. But, the hardest hit area may have been between Sprague and Menisino, where Hasell says it is unconfirmed, but they may have received up to 100 millimetres or about four inches.

"It didn't fall on a station, so I don't have a way of confirming that right now. That's just based on radar imagery," explains Hasell. "I don't know exactly how much hail was in that area either and hail shows up very, very intense on radar."

Hasell says there have been no reports of funnel clouds but Dufrost received nickel sized hail, while Beausejour experienced wind gusts of 80 kilometres per hour.

After three days of hot and humid conditions, there is a definite change in the weather today. The normal high for this time of year is 25 degrees. Environment Canada is not forecasting Steinbach to reach that temperature for the next seven days. Instead, Hasell says you can expect highs ranging from 20 to 24 degrees, with showers.

And, even though the last two days have seen highs above 30 degrees for Steinbach, Hasell says no temperature records were broken.
