With Summer In The City hitting downtown Steinbach this weekend, the first of the street closures will take effect early Thursday morning.

Randy Reimer is Head of Public Works for the city of Steinbach. He says starting at 7 am Thursday, Reimer Avenue will be shut down from First Street to Elmdale Street. He notes this closure is necessary for crews to begin setup of the midway.

Reimer says the next closure will happen on Thursday at 6 pm when Main Street will be closed from Friesen Avenue to Barkman Avenue.

The next closure happens Friday morning when Lumber Avenue is shut down from Main Street to Elmdale Street. Reimer says this closure is because of Steinbach Credit Union's annual pancake breakfast. That stretch of Lumber Avenue will be closed from 7 am to 11 am.

Another closure of Lumber Avenue will take place on Saturday. Reimer says Lumber will be closed from First Street to Main Street from Noon to 9 pm.

And finally, Reimer says Main Street will be closed from Highway 12 to Friesen Avenue on Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm. This is to accommodate the car show.

According to Reimer, the expectation is that all streets should be open again by Sunday midnight.

Meanwhile, with Main Street being closed to traffic this weekend, Reimer says motorists will want to take note of the suggested detour. Any traffic that would otherwise use Main Street to head east out of Steinbach should rather drive south down Brandt Street and then east down McKenzie Avenue to head out of town. Similarly, for traffic that would use Main Street to head west out of Steinbach, they should drive west down McKenzie Avenue and then north up Brandt Street.
