Home sales in Steinbach are off to a slower start this year than in 2023. That is according to Jeremy Davis with the Winnipeg Regional Real Estate Board.

Davis says in the first quarter this year, there were 32 single-family home sales in Steinbach, which is down from 39 in the same period a year ago. That is an 18 per cent dip.

Davis says that is quite different from what is being felt across the market region, where single-family home sales were up 11 per cent in the first quarter, compared to last year. He notes it is difficult to say why Steinbach's numbers do not reflect the rest of the market region.

Davis says the drop in sales is especially peculiar when you consider the fact that there have been more listings so far this year. In the first quarter, Steinbach saw 56 listings compared to 53 one year earlier.

The average selling price for a single-family home this year has been $373,619. That is a 13 per cent climb since the same period a year ago when it sat at $330,141.

According to Davis, the highest priced sale in the first quarter this year was just under $700,000, which is also up over last year.

Taking a look at the condominium market, Davis says there were only seven sales in the first quarter, compared to 16 in the first quarter last year.

Condominium listings were exactly half this year compared to last year. There were 10 in the first quarter this year and 20 in the first quarter a year ago.

Davis says the average selling price for a condominium in the first quarter this year was $213,614. Even though sales were down, the average price is still two per cent higher than the same period a year ago when the average selling price was $208,897.
