Steinbach and the RM of Hanover have inked a formal agreement on inter-municipal road maintenance. It relates to newly-annexed areas of Steinbach northwest of the existing city boundaries. Mayor Chris Goertzen says the intent is be as efficient as possible.

"In the spirit of this annexation agreement, we're moving forward and working together with our neighbour. We're pleased to have this formalized when it comes to road maintenance. It'll create some efficiencies between the two municipalities, having Steinbach take care of some of the roads in Hanover and Hanover take care of some of the roads in Steinbach. If it makes sense, we should do it that way, making sure that we have the same standards."

Goertzen says this is another example of how inter-municipal cooperation can lead to better, more efficient, services.

"We can be efficient together, especially when we're working in tandem and making sure we can benefit our citizens when we sit down and work these things out. I very proud that our two councils have been able to do that and this is a small indicator of where we are heading."
