St. Pierre Jolys boy's message in a bottle found

A seven-year-old boy from St. Pierre Jolys has learned that sometimes a message in a bottle does reach someone. 

While Taylor Owen and her daughter walked to the lake from their cabin in Arnes, Manitoba, they noticed a bottle with red tape on the shore. Initially mistaking it for garbage, Owen realized they had come across a message in a bottle.  

The message left  

The bottle contained a letter from Brody Funk, a seven-year-old boy from St. Pierre Jolys. Owen said in the letter Brody introduced himself, left a return address, and asked for something in return from the recipient.  

The bottle also contained a pack of gummies, as a snack to whoever found the bottle.  

Owen said her daughter was intrigued by the pack of gummies left behind, "I think she thought it was pretty cool. I think she was more excited about getting gummies than the actual letter. But no, it was a really cool experience." 

After losing the letter, Owen put a message on Facebook, asking for help on contacting Brody's parents. She was then able to connect with Brody's father, Blaine Funk.  

A family activity  

Blaine said his two sons, Brody and Wyatt, age five, both released multiple bottles with various notes and snacks while staying with his mother in Gimli.  

"My parents live up north in Gimli and the boys like to spend evenings and some sleepovers there," said Blaine. "And it was just an activity that my mom did with them." 

Brody said he released three bottles and hoped somebody would find them. So far, two of the bottles have been found. 

Blaine said both boys are very excited about their messages in a bottle being discovered and are looking forward to sending more.
