The Seine River School Division passed what Board Chair Wendy Bloomfield describes as a status quo budget at Tuesday night's board meeting.

Bloomfield says due to the way the provincial school funding panned out this year, there will be a slight tax increase for homeowners.

"I think the overall feeling is that it's basically a status quo budget in terms of services to the kids, there's been no change. The increase for a homeowner who has an assessed value on their home of $276,000, they would see an increase of approximately $75 a year on their taxes. That's the actual impact for the homeowner is the dollar value there."

Bloomfield says they did stay within the guidelines that they province provided but adds there is still an impact on homeowners. She notes one positive thing is that they don't have to do any major cutting.

"We haven't had to cut any programs. One of the things that works to our advantage is the fact that we have a lot of new assessment because our division is still growing and we have new enrolment coming in so that adds to our ability to sort of maintain what we've got without having to cut but we're just maintaining."
