Steinbach Regional scored two goals in each period en route to a 6-2 victory over the Oak Park Raiders at the Eric Coy Arena. Lucas Jolicoeur had a pair of goals for the Sabres while the rest went to Drew Heide, Dominic Rooney, Cody Neufeld and Lewis Hartung. William MacDonald got the win in net for the SRSS. Steinbach Regional has a 4-2-2-1 record in the Winnipeg High School Hockey League’s Platinum Promotions Division.


The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Top Prospects Showcase takes place today and Wednesday at Stride Place in Portage. The event will feature six teams selected from MJHL rosters (two 18U and four 20U) who are considered top prospects for advancement. Each team will partake in a practice and play two full games during this high-performance event in front of the many scouts from NHL, NCAA, WHL and U Sports confirmed to be in attendance. 13 Steinbach Pistons have been selected to play in the Showcase. Defenseman Langley Kruggel and fowards Ian Amsbaugh & Davis Fry are on Team 20U Grey; goaltender Cole Plowman and forwards Leo Chambers & Nate Goodbrandson are on Team 20U Red; forwards Kirk Mullen and Ty Paisley are on Team 20U White; defenseman Warren Clark and forward Brett Kaiser are on Team 18U Black and defensemen Spencer Penner & Noah Szabo and forward Nicholas Mikan are on Team 18U White. 10 Niverville Nighthawks have been selected to play in the Showcase. Fowards Brendan Bottem and Brett Tataryn are on Team 20U Grey; defenseman Evan Bortis & Desmond Johnson and forwards Brendan Kerr & Josh Paulhus are on Team 20U Red; forward Carter Spirig is on Team 18U Black and defensemen Eric Martin & Carson Reed and forward Hayden Wheddon are on Team 18U White. 


Mark Franklin has a 2-0 record and Murray Warren, Judy Colwell and Sandra Cowling are 1-1 heading into day two of the Canadian Masters Curling Championships at the Pembina Curling Club in Winnipeg. 


Dean North of the Carman Curling Club has qualified for the 2023 Strathcona Trust Provincial Senior Men's Curling Championship. North, Brad Wainikka, Rob Van Deynze and Mike Orchard defeated Neil Okumura of Pembina 7-6 in the final of the Morden berth bonspiel. The Provincials will be held March 22nd-27th in Dauphin. 


The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have made a bold move as the team begins preparations to host next year's Grey Cup. Hamilton acquired the rights to veteran quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell from the Calgary Stampeders. That will give Hamilton a window to negotiate with the two-time C-F-L outstanding player before he becomes a free agent. The Stamps get Hamilton's third-round pick in the 2023 CFL draft, fifth-round pick in 2024 and future considerations.



The Honorary Life Members of CurlManitoba met at the Pembina Curling Club in Winnipeg last week. Rick Mutton, who is the Association's secretary/treasurer, will join Clayton Dreger on This Week in Curling which airs Tuesdays at 5:15 p.m. on AM 1250 Radio.
