A reading of 96 km/hr in a 60 zone was the highest speed recorded on Kokomo Road during a recent speed watch. The speed watch was facilitated by the RM of La Broquerie staff through the MPI Speed Watch program and Steinbach RCMP were in the area to help.

Reeve Lewis Weiss says the excessive speed was surprising to a number of councillors, adding residents in the area say drivers breaking the speed limit is not unusual.

"That is a very narrow road and a lot of areas don't have ditches. So, hopefully in the future, with this information released, people are going to drive slower along there."

RCMP were in the area and issued two tickets for speeding along Kokomo Road. One ticket was issued for driving 96 km/hr and the other for driving 85 km/hr, both in a 60 zone. These tickets cost those drivers $521.75 and $378.00 respectively.
