More snow would help snowmobile trails in the area, says the Southeast Sno-Riders president.

Mitch Gobeil says the warmer temperatures and lack of significant precipitation we've been experiencing has taken a bit of a toll on the trails. He notes an additional six inches of snow would help.

"It would greatly help to work the trails better, to provide a better base. That's the problem, with the lack of snow we've recieved so far this winter and then the warmer weather, not only does it evaporate, it compacts more. So, it leaves you less snow to be able to fill in the moguls; the holes and high spots."

Gobeil says the only trail not open, due to a lack of now, is the trail from Marchand west to Steinbach.

"I was in the Steinbach area on Monday; there's so little snow there out on the field that even if we went and tried to groom them you would be snowmobiling on black dirt."

He notes while more snow is needed the warmer temperatures has caused the trails to compress and he asks riders to use caution, reduce speed, and drive accordingly.
