Steinbach city councillor Susan Penner says she has not yet decided her next step after suggesting city council reconsider its decision to build a performing arts centre. Penner made a statement at council's last meeting on re-opening the arts centre decision but stopped short of filing a Notice of Motion to formally put the item on the agenda for a future meeting. She isn't sure when she will raise the matter again at council.

"I'm still hearing from people and want to take into consideration, you know, give people a chance to respond if there are still more who want to respond. And then, I'll decide from there whether it will be at the next meeting or a subsequent meeting."

Penner says a lot of people have come forward since she raised the matter two weeks ago.

"I think, overall, residents have wanted a great voice in the recreation discussion and they've taken this opportunity to express their voice."

She adds it's hard to know why these folks didn't come forward over the last two years during the extensive public consultation process on the multiplex.

"I think a lot of our response and feedback we received was actually from the interest groups, maybe not geared as much towards residents, maybe they didn't know their opportunities where they could participate or maybe we didn't present enough opportunities for them to participate."

But Penner feels it's important their voices be heard even though council has already made a final decision that a performing arts centre would be phase one of a multiplex.
