Niverville Town Council has decided to join the Partnership of the Manitoba Capital Region.

The Manitoba Capital Region is a partnership of Winnipeg and surrounding municipalities working together to identify common goals and encourage the development of an economically strong capital region.

Niverville Mayor Myron Dyck says the partnership helps the rural municipalities integrate with an urban centre like Winnipeg.

“What that means for Niverville is we are able to be a voice at a table with other municipalities that are around the perimeter of the City of Winnipeg as well as representation from the City of Winnipeg. We can sit down at the same table together, we can discuss issues and topics that are relevant to both city and surrounding municipalities.”

The Partnership of the Manitoba Capital Region was founded in 1999. Dyck notes topics like transportation, environment, tourism, infrastructure, and economic development have become more relevant with all of the growth Niverville has been experiencing. Council decided this was the appropriate time to participate.

“The capital region has been an entity for some time already, it is only at this point that Niverville is choosing to join. It is just a matter of timing in that as Niverville has grown there are topics of relevance to us now, so as council we saw it as important that this would be a good time for us to be a part of this.”
