For McMunn and Yates Building Supplies in Steinbach, their mission has always been to provide quality building materials and lumber to businesses looking for further support. When discussing current projects, Corwin Penner, store manager at McMunn and Yates Building Supplies in Steinbach, says there's a lot underway.

When it comes to their current renovation project, the building lot will be demolished and then open for rebuilding with members of Penner's team. "We're definitely going to be rebuilding," Penner explains. "Where we have the lower section of the building that's going to be the same height as our warehouse, so it's going to be a very modern, sleek design."

"You're going to be able to store a lot more in the store like you would at some other places in the city with materials inside casings, baseboards, sheet goods, windows, doors: all of that stuff that was previously in our warehouse."

According to Penner, their physical locations are going to be modernized and updated to adhere to growing customer interest. "Some better lighting, upgrade to Stoneybrook Pantry as they are part of our building as well, and we're going to give them a facelift and just a general all-around excitement 'cause it's been a long time coming."

"We're going to be able to offer a very wide variety of products from flooring, tile, lighting, plumbing. It's all going to be there, so we hope to be your one-stop-shop for everything coming up once we're once they're open, and even now we were able to facilitate most of that." Penner further explains. "But definitely, once the new store is open, it's going to be its great customer shopping experience."

McMunn and Yates Building Supplies is going through a building expansion in Steinbach, not only expanding the size of their building but also the number of services and supplies they offer.

"Obviously, there are some challenges. Being in the back, people don't really realize that we're open," Penner says, referring to the construction tarps placed over their business as they work. He explains their business will remain open during their construction. "You do have to drive around the building to the back to where the warehouse was. You'll see a big red wall with the McMunn and Yates banner over top of it."

"I guess it's just the feeling that people weren't quite sure where to go if we were open, but we're very much open since May."

"It's really nice. It's updated lighting in here. It's quite cozy, and it's actually nice that we're able to offer this to the public."

When it comes to the project's completion, Penner says late spring is the goal for completion. "The target date's going to be around May, sometime," Penner says. "From what I understand, demolition should start any day now, but as far as construction, I guess everything weather dependent and any hiccups that come along, but I've been told late spring."
