Mosquitoes are so bad in the Village of St. Pierre-Jolys right now that Council thinking about fogging for the first time in over four decades.

“It’s ridiculous! If you don’t wear any product, you’re going to be eaten alive,” expresses Mayor Raymond Maynard. “I’ve been in St. Pierre all my life and I’ve honestly never seen it this bad.”

By Maynard’s best guess, the last time the village sprayed for mosquitoes was in the late 1970s and now there may be need to do it again. He says Council has already issued a request for proposals and will be making their official decision once the quotes are in. Council’s verdict on the matter could be made as early as Wednesday evening.

In the meantime, property owners are asked to empty their yards of standing water, cut their grass where they can, and take whatever steps possible to mitigate the mosquito population. Likewise, Maynard notes his office will be draining and mowing any village-owned property to ensure they are not easily habitable for the pesky insects.

The mayor is optimistic that the mosquitoes’ numbers piqued during the heat and humidity last week and are now trending downward but adds, until their levels are manageable, their irradication will be a priority of Council.
