Intersection most in need of traffic signals

The City of Steinbach continues to compile evidence of the need for the province to install traffic signals at a number of intersections on highways in the city. The annual traffic study, commissioned by the city, shows traffic volumes continuing to increase at a rate of three to five per cent per year. It also shows a number of intersections along Highways #12 and #52 surpass the minimum criteria set out by the province for traffic signals.

Mayor Chris Goertzen says, "The one that's the highest priority for the city is Hespeler, Mckenzie and Highway #52 (the water tower corner), that continues to warrant signalization. Highway #12 at Penfeld Drive also does as well as Golfair Road and Stonebridge Crossing. Now, not all of these are a high priority for the city but, certainly, we want to see action on some of these and most definitely, the Mckenzie-Hespeler-Highway #52 turn."

The study has been forwarded to the province because it is responsible for these roads. Councillor Michael Zwaagstra says, "We urgently need these upgrades and the province needs to act on them."
