The Winnipeg Senior Baseball League's Mitchell Mariners saw their record fall to 2 and 2 after a 6-5 10 inning loss to the St.James A's. Jason Sharpe had three hits including a three-run homer. Mitchell had a 3-1 lead with two out and one on in the bottom of the 7th inning but the A's tied it with back to back doubles. The Mariners then got two runs in the top of the 10th but St.James won it with three in the bottom of the inning. Mitchell will play it's fourth straight road game tonight when they meet the North Winnipeg Black Sox.

The Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum will hold its 10th annual Induction Ceremony at the Morden Recreation Center tomorrow. This years inductees include Al Evason, Walter Gibbons, Bruce Gullett, Mike Levandosky, Garth Neville, Maurice Oakes, Bill Siddle, Denny Smith, Barry Swanton, Frank Watkins, Terry Lynd and Don Maskiw. Teams to be inducted are the Brandon Greys 1948-1951, Manitoba Junior Baseball League's Elmwood Giants 1978-1980, Snowflake 1948-1953 and Lyleton 1955-1960. Armando Vasquez and the Toews family of Plum Coulee, which included father Peter and sons Ron, Garry, Brian and Bill will be inducted in the Special category.

The Southeastern Fastball League's 2006 season opened last night. Kerry Martens had a two run homer as Mitchell beat the Eagles 8-6. Kelly Reimer got the win for the Mavericks.

The Northern Baseball League's Winnipeg Goldeyes scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning and beat the Kansas City T-Bones 14-7 Thursday afternoon at Can West Global Park. Jimmy Hurst drove in four runs while Fehlandt Lentini, Harry Berrios and Daniel Quartararo each had three rbi's. The Goldeyes improved to 8 and 5 and will wrap up their 10 game homestand this weekend when they face the Edmonton Cracker-Cats. First baseman Jon Benick, who was batting .234 in 12 games with no home runs and two runs batted in was released.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers begin their pre-season schedule tonight at Canad Inns Stadium against the Montreal Alouettes. Four veterans will not be in the Bombers line-up this evening as Milt Stegall, Charles Roberts, Doug Brown and Barrin Simpson have been given the night off by head coach Doug Berry.

Winkler's Eric Fehr and the rest of the Hershey Bears will open the American Hockey League's best of 7 Calder Cup final tonight in Milwaukee. The Bears needed an overtime goal from Fehr in game seven of the Eastern Conference final to eliminate the Portland Pirates. The Admirals swept the Grand Rapids Griffins in four straight in the Western Conference.

The Carolina Hurricanes and Edmonton Oilers will meet in the Stanley Cup final beginning Monday in Raleigh. The Hurricanes scored three third period goals and beat the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 in the 7th and deciding game of the National Hockey League's Eastern Conference final.

The Provincial Rural High School Track and Field Championships will be held today and tomorrow in Selkirk.
