Wednesday is Tim Hortons Camp Day and our local restaurants have plans to celebrate.

General Manager Jorge Sousa says not only will proceeds from every hot or iced coffee beverage from every location go toward Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, but they also have games, prizes, and other events planned at the Highway 12 north location in Steinbach.

“Every year this restaurant does a fundraiser barbecue. Earl's Meats donates hot dogs for that and all that money goes directly to [the camps]. We also do squeegeeing in the drive-thru which is a really big part of the day, they do a lot of fundraising through that. Steinbach is such a supportive community, they donate until it hurts around here so it's great. The energy around here is going to be huge.”

Sousa says Tim Hortons has also been selling bracelets ahead of time with the proceeds going to Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.

He notes the camps themselves benefit underprivileged youth and children, providing them with a fun camp experience that also teaches leadership and a variety of skills.

“Locally here in Steinbach, we've been able to send, over my four years here, about a dozen kids already.”

Sousa adds “Parents often say their kids come back different people, new skill sets, new learned independence that they're getting from these camps and what many people don't know is the program isn't just for the camp. These programs run throughout the year, through school-based programs where they continue to work with the same individuals.”

This year is the 50th anniversary for Tim Hortons Camp Day.

The AM150, MIX 96.7FM, and COUNTRY 107.7FM morning shows will be broadcasting from the Highway 12 North Tim Hortons location on Wednesday from 7AM to 9AM. You are encouraged to drop by, say high, support Tim Hortons Foundation Camps, and join the fun!
