Pistons forwards Travis Hensrud and Zach Power each scored twice, Quinton Pepper had 4 assists and Will Hambley made 28 saves in Steinbach's 7-0 win over the Selkirk Steelers Monday afternoon.

It was a packed TG Smith Centre as capacity limits were lifted and the crowd of over 900 were treated to a quick start by the home team as Jack Rogers took a pass from defender Jackson Betcher and buried his 19th of the season to get Steinbach on the board less than two minutes in, 1-0. Travis Hensrud had the other assist on the goal.

The top line combined on the 2-0 goal as Braden Birnie forced a turnover in the Pistons defensive zone, flipped a puck that almost hit the ceiling. The high, rainbow pass ended up on the stick of Quinton Pepper who put a bouncing puck towards the Steelers goal and Zach Power showed off some elite hand-eye coordination by batting the puck down and then in for his 8th goal of the year.

After Steinbach took a penalty with under two minutes to go, Hensrud went to work and put on a masterclass of how to kill a penalty.

The strong defensive play kept the Steelers from getting anything going on the man advantage and the Pistons managed to get the puck and fire it down the ice. Hensrud turned on the jets and chased the Selkirk power play behind their own net. Like a thief in the night, Hensrud managed to steal the puck from the unsuspecting puck carrier, walk out in front and while his first shot was stopped, three Selkirk Steelers players stood by and watched Hensrud get his own rebound and score his 18th of the year.

The shorthanded, unassisted marker gave Steinbach a 3-0 lead heading into intermission.

Starting the second period on a power-play gave Steinbach the opportunity to expand the lead and they didn't waste it.

A great cross-ice pass from Pepper found the stick of Birnie who snapped off a beautiful wrist shot that beat the Steelers goalie high glove for the 20-year-olds 5th of the season. Power also picked up an assist on the 4-0 goal.

Ty Paisley, who being from Steinbach, had a number of friends and family in attendance, also got in on the scoring as the rookie showcased some soft hands in the slot, going forehand then backhand for his 13th of the year. Pepper who made a wonderful pass from the side of the net to set up the goal grabbed his third point of the night while David Cote also collected an assist.

The 5-0 lead would grow to 6-0 on perhaps the prettiest goal of the season for the Pistons.

A tic-tac-toe passing clinic brought fans to their feet as the top line was at it again. Pepper got the play started as the hulking forward forced his way into the Steelers zone. He fired a pass over to Birnie who quickly one-touch passed it to the top of the crease where Power was waiting and just tipped it through the five-hole and in for his second of the game and 9th of the year.

Pepper, Power, and Birnie combined for 10 points in two periods.

Selkirk switched goalies after giving up 6 goals on 24 shots but the goaltender didn't have a lot of help in front of him and could hardly be blamed for the goals Steinbach scored.

The third period was in large parts, uneventful.

Nearing the midway point of the period, Hensrud capped off a three-point night by scoring his second of the game and 19th of the campaign to extend the lead to 7-0. Paisley grabbed one assist as did Jack Rogers.

With that goal, the fans who had a ticket would get free pancakes from a local restaurant. It's the second time the  Pistons have scored 7 goals at home, the first time coming back on October 15th against the Portage Terriers.

A dust-up late was really the only other thing noteworthy in the third period. Pistons forward Hutner Degelman got into a wrestling match with a Steelers player with under a minute to go but it didn't turn into anything more than that.

Both players received roughing penalties and were shown the gate early.

The last question to be answered was if Will Hambley would get another shutout and that was answered when the horn sounded and a big 0 remained in the Steelers goal column.

Hambley's 6th shutout ties him at the top of the league lead. He's second in wins with 22 and first in both save percentage and goals-against average.

Steinbach managed to go 1-2 on the power play and a perfect 6-6 on the penalty kill.

Friday night is the next night the Pistons will see game action as they welcome the Winnipeg Blues to the TG Smith Centre.
