Trouncing all of their previous records, the students of Green Valley School in Grunthal raised over 7,000 pounds of food for their local food bank.

“We actually blew past our goal,” announced Grade 7 teacher Maria Friesen at a school-wide assembly Tuesday afternoon. “Way to go GVS!”

In addition to being a massive donation, the 7,168 pounds of food also meant something else to the excited students.

“I have a green Mohawk because that was the incentive for students to raise over 7,000 pounds,” admits high school math teacher Gord Dueck, feigning sheepishness. “I thought I was safe setting the bar over 6,000 pounds but apparently I was wrong.”

d will be donated to Grunthal Caring Hands for distribution throughout the year.
