The final Meals on the Farm, presented by Steinbach Credit Union, made its stop in Randolph at Kohmar Farms.

Kohmar Farms has been a family-run operation for generations.

“This has been in the family since the late 1800s. I believe it was my great, great grandfather who started on this plot of land,” says owner Aurther Rempel.

Over the years, the farm has grown significantly. Today, Kohmar Farms work about 7,000 acres, producing corn, wheat, canola, and beans.

The Rempel family of Kohmar FarmsAurther, Jennifer, Ava, and Matthew Rempel, and their nephew at Meals on the Farm.

Rempel’s wife, Jennifer, plays a big role in the operation, looking after the yard and managing office work.

“I love the outdoors. I love gardening. I love the field work. I love listening to Arthur talk about how things are going with seeding time and harvest time,” she says.

After many years in the industry, Rempel has developed a deep passion for farming.

“I really have an attachment to the land. I really enjoy watching crops grow, fertilizing them and making sure that they're healthy and then harvesting them, bringing them into the bin, it's a great feeling.”

He remains mindful of the future and how to keep the land healthy.

“We're very good stewards of the land. We take very good care of it. We want the land to be healthy and have it be in such a position that it can be profitable for years to come for next generations.”

The next generation is already showing interest. Both of Arthur’s children want to take over the farm someday, something he finds encouraging.

“I love it. It motivates me to continue to operate in the best way that we can so that it's here for the next generation.”

His daughter Ava is especially grateful for the lifestyle that comes with growing up on the farm.

“I really like the freedom that it has, I get to experience things that other kids wouldn't be able to experience.”

Kohmar Farms was nominated for Meals on the Farm by Landis Loeppky, who highlighted the family’s commitment to community and generosity.

One example of their giving back is through the Pistons Crop Program.

“Every third year we participate in that, and we think the Pistons are a very valuable community organization and we really appreciate the opportunity to be able to be involved with the Pistons.”

The lunch hour was spent with a meal shared by the Rempel family, their farmhands, and Meals on the Farm sponsors, with lunch provided by Mennonite Heritage Village.
