A garage went up in flames early Friday morning in Steinbach.

Steinbach Fire Chief Kel Toews says his crews were called out shortly before 2 am, to the corner of Giesbrecht Street and First Street.

"When we got there, there was a detached garage that was fully involved," reports Toews. "And the exterior of the house next to it had just caught fire."

Toews says they quickly attacked the house fire and were able to keep damage to a minimal. He says there is a bit of exterior damage to the home. However, the garage is a complete loss.

There were no vehicles lost in the fire, but Toews guesses the damage estimate is about $250,000 when you consider the rebuild value.

According to Toews, there were no injuries. He says everyone was able to safely vacate the home.

Toews says the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Most of the crew was able to leave the scene within about 90 minutes.
