In just one night, traffic cones were removed from Steinbach's Main Street and set up along Brandt Street.

After years of waiting, pylons have finally been set up on Brandt Street in Steinbach as crews begin work on a complete redesign of the Brandt Street and Loewen Boulevard intersection.

At the moment, traffic on Brandt Street is down to one lane in both directions between Main Street and Stonebridge Crossing. Both inside lanes are currently closed.

According to Steinbach's Head Engineer Aaron Rach, the first step in the process is to create crossover lanes.

"They're going to start by installing the traffic switchovers, which are temporary paved lanes that will bring the traffic from one side of the highway to the other, across the median."

For the first year of this project, traffic will be funnel onto the east side of the intersection where it will be a single lane in both directions. This will allow construction crews to work on the west side of the intersection. Next year traffic will be funneled onto the west side as crews complete the project.

The redesign is set to be completed in fall of 2025.
