The Bethesda Foundation says it’s closing in on its ambitious $22-million fundraising goal, thanks to ongoing generosity from the Steinbach community.

As of early August, the Caring Together campaign has reached $19.5 million, and the foundation is putting out a call for donors to help push the campaign over the finish line.

Bethesda Foundation board chair Chris Goertzen says it’s been remarkable to witness the support that continues to come in from individuals and local businesses.

“When you set a goal of $22 million, it’s a tall order,” said Goertzen. “But we’re already at $19.5 million. We continue to be thankful and amazed at the generosity of so many people in Steinbach and the region.”

Donations helping expand local care

Goertzen says the Caring Together campaign supports multiple healthcare projects, but the two most visible are the three new operating rooms and a dedicated palliative care unit being added to Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

“These are important additions to healthcare for our region,” he said. “People are going to really see a difference in services.”

He says the new operating theatres will allow more surgeries to happen locally, helping residents stay close to home and their support networks during treatment. Meanwhile, the new palliative care wing is designed to provide dignity and comfort at end of life.

“This is care that people deserve,” said Goertzen. “And donors are making it happen.”

Inspired by personal stories

Goertzen adds that many donors have shared their personal reasons for supporting the campaign — often shaped by their own experiences or those of loved ones who’ve needed medical care.

“People are touched by healthcare all throughout their lives,” he said. “Those who give often have their own stories, and we are honoured when they allow us to share them.”

The foundation has not set a hard deadline for completing the campaign, but Goertzen says they are hoping to hit their $22-million target by the end of 2025.

Donations stay local

Goertzen reminds the public that every dollar donated to the Bethesda Foundation stays in the region, helping improve care for local families.

People can donate directly on the foundation’s website or by reaching out for more information on other giving options.

“Whether it’s a one-time donation or a recurring gift, we want to make it easy for people to contribute in a way that works for them,” said Goertzen.
