Canada Post has increased the security at their Steinbach post office in response to two break-ins that happened this past Christmas season.

Between December 4th and December 5th, the Steinbach Post Office was broken into twice. As a result of these crimes, several mailboxes sustained significant damage after being pried open, and numerous packages were stolen. Recently, Canada Post confirmed that steps have been taken to prevent similar crimes in the future.

op those who commit property crimes and we, at Canada Post, are committed to support the police in their efforts to do so.”

Legault says any customers affected by these crimes have been contacted and adds that their vandalized mailboxes have since been repaired.

“When these types of unfortunate incidents occur, we ask any customers who have not received an expected parcel to first, inform the sender and initiate a claim, and second, contact Canada Post Customer Service.”

Steinbach RCMP continue to investigate these crimes and have not yet received any official claims about stolen mail.
