Emergency crews have been helping with a hydro pole issue on Lions Gate in Steinbach after a page at 11:20 Monday morning.

Steinbach Fire deputy chief Ron Chausse says, when they arrived on scene, they found there was a hydro pole burnt through and leaning.

"Basically what we did there was, we had to evacuate the south side of Lions Gate until Manitoba Hydro was able to shut down that side of the line. It's just making sure that everything was clear and everyone was safe while hydro takes care of the problem."

Chausse says the power is partially restored and there may be power interruptions throughout Monday afternoon as Manitoba Hydro continues to fix the damaged hydro pole. Hanover School Division superintendent Randy Dueck says the power outage affected Southwood, Woodlawn, Clearspring Middle, and Stoneybrook Middle Schools, adding the power was out for about 25 minutes before being restored.

Old Tom Road was closed when crews first arrived and is currently restricted to local traffic only.
