Dozens of residents of Lorette will notice a disruption in their water service.
Pete Skjaerlund is Utility and Solid Waste Manager for the Rural Municipality of Tache. He explains that late last week they were notified of standing water in one of the ditches. Upon further investigation, they discovered the standing water was the result of a leak at a service valve to a fire hydrant.
Skjaerlund says they started excavating that area Monday morning and located the leak.
"A bolt broke on the flange to the valve, and it was spraying quite a lot," he reports. "So, we had to shut down the water and do emergency repairs."
Skjaerlund says as a result, all addresses between 1390 Dawson Road and 1464 Dawson Road will be without water until approximately 7 o'clock Monday evening. Following that, those addresses will be on a boil water advisory.
"They can use it for flushing toilets and bathing and such," he says. "But for consumption, we would ask that they bring it to a rapid boil for one minute prior to cooling it and drinking it."
Then on Tuesday, the water will again be shut off for those addresses. Skjaerlund says crews will be installing an isolation valve. He anticipates the water will be shut off at approximately 11 am, lasting 60 to 90 minutes.
Skjaerlund says the boil water advisory will likely be in effect until late Thursday afternoon or early Friday morning. He notes this impacts 61 addresses, but no schools or seniors homes.
