The Reeve of Hanover says they have finally been approved for funding to construct a water pipeline from Grunthal to Kleefeld.
Stan Toews notes this has been a priority of council's for about five or six years now. And in fact, this spring, council named this project it's top priority on a list submitted to Manitoba Water Services Board (MWSB).
"We are receiving about six hundred thousand dollars for this grant," notes Toews. "It's supposed to cover fifty per cent of the project."
Toews notes the barium content in the Kleefeld water is currently over the Canadian standard.
"By bringing in other water we can lower that mineral that's naturally occurring," says Toews. "And meet the regulations of the drinking water standards."
Toews assures residents their water is perfectly safe to drink.
"It is totally safe and it's just something we were supposed to get in line at some point," says Toews.
He expects the project to be tendered in December, with work to happen next summer.
