A member of the board of the Steinbach Arts Council appreciates the findings of several surveys completed for the Mayor's Task Force on Public Engagement for Recreation and Cultural Facilities. The surveys found significant support for Steinbach to build a performing arts centre and that the preferred location is downtown. Graham Pollock is excited that planning can move forward.

Graham Pollock"The Steinbach Arts Council is thankful for the work that the task force put in and the openess of the process. This city is a very community-spirited city and it doesn't surprise me that the feedback that the task force got was almost overwhelming, to use their words. So certainly we're pleased that the arts centre has still come through as being a needed facility, a much-needed facility."

Pollock notes there is still a lot of work to do because the task force has suggested that 10 per cent of the cost of a performing arts centre should be covered by fundraising. But he is optimistic that will happen.

"If the results of the poll are any indicaton, then there is support for this project. And, if there is support for the project in the community, that means some of our fundraisers are also supportive of the process. So, yes I'm fairly optimistic that that's going to happen."
