The Steinbach Regional Secondary School has the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes playoff number.

The Sabres forced six turnovers and Austin Buhler ran for 121 yards and two touchdowns as the SRSS defeated Miles Macdonell 31-0 Friday at A.D. Penner Park.

It's the third straight season Steinbach Regional has eliminated the Buckeyes in round one of the Winnipeg High School Football League playoffs.

"We did a heck of a job," said a very content Sabres head coach Jamie Peters shortly after his team's quarterfinal victory. "Defensively we did what we do. Two picks by Cade Penner and one finished for a touchdown. Riley Doerksen got an interception, Mason Coldwell had an interception, had one fumble recovery. We didn't turn the ball over on offense and we made some plays. The boys did a heck of a job responding."

Doerksen also had a blocked punt while Dakota Funk forced a fumble on a Miles Mac punt return that was recovered by Shecoy Selent.

The Sabres, who lost 9-8 to the Buckeyes in their regular season finale last Friday at Eastside Eagles field, enjoyed a 14-0 lead at halftime thanks to two huge plays from the offense.

Selent caught a 12-yard pass from quarterback Harrison Pankratz, broke a tackle and went 71 yards for a touchdown.

Buhler then scampered 50-yards for his first major.

"It was a sloppy field with all the rain we had this fall," said Peters. "It wasn't the prettiest offensive game but considering we've had some injuries and one of our offensive lineman was ineligible to play in this game – it was real gut-check time. Just happy the offense responded."

Pankratz completed 8-of-13 pass attempts for 130 yards and one touchdown.

Eric Adams caught four passes for 46 yards and Tyler Botham rushed nine times for 73 yards.

Steinbach Regional will face the St. Paul's Crusaders in the semifinals of the CTV Bowl Friday, November 4th at Eastside Eagles Field.

The Crusaders, who rolled past the Crocus Plains Plainsmen 36-0 in their quarterfinal on Thursday, beat the Sabres 14-9 in week six.

"We're going to expect another tight game," said Peters. "We match up pretty well against them. It's going to be a real hard fought battle and we got to make sure we have a good week of practice. We just got to go out there and make some plays. The nice thing is we'll be on artificial turf next week so that's always good."
