One mile of country road is closed today in the Rural Municipality of Hanover, following heavy rain Monday night.

Wes Fehr is Manager of Works and Operations. He says Road 32E, northwest of Steinbach is closed for one mile between Road 37N and 38N.

"We're monitoring the Keating Drain," says Fehr. "Right now it's actually overflowing the banks at Road 32E or Twin Creek Road."

According to Fehr, there are no other roads in the municipality where water is running over. The other drain with water running at near or full capacity is the Manning Canal.

"A lot of roads are quite wet and muddy in certain areas because of the amount of rainfall we had," explains Fehr. "So people just to use caution as they are traveling around on the local roads."

Fehr notes there have been no reports of flooded basements. He says it appears the hardest hit part of the municipality is the area around Steinbach where 87 millimetres of rain fell.

Fehr adds, McKenzie Avenue, south of Mitchell which was rebuilt this summer looks okay.
