Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe

The Hanover Fire Chiefs Association has presented a number of requests to its municipal council. Hanover Fire Chief Paul Wiebe says for starters they're asking council to consider hiring a fulltime fire chief to manage the 3 stations. Wiebe says the chief would be responsible for maintaining reports, recording statistics, doing inspections and dealing with budgets, training and policies. Secondly, he says they're proposing to provide fire service to a larger area of the municipality. In order to do that they're asking council to consider putting up another station either in Blumenort or Mitchell. Wiebe says right now they have service agreements with Steinbach and Niverville to cover portions of the RM. He says the fire chiefs association would like to see any fire service agreements with neighbouring communities become fee for service agreements.
