May 12th, 2020 is Manitoba's 150th Birthday. Today is Manitoba Day and we celebrated that on the Morning Show!

Robert Goertzen, Program Manager at the Mennonite Heritage Village and he is VERY excited about the "virtual" celebration they have planned.

The program will include a partnership with Eastman Immigrant Services and some of their clients' thoughts on what makes Manitoba so great. It will also include some messages from a few politicians and the "Manitoba Song", sung and performed by Michelle Sawatzky.

The history of Manitoba Day goes like this: The Manitoba Act, which created the Province of Manitoba, was given Royal Ascent on May 12, 1870. This paved the way for the proclamation on July 15, 1870.

On May 12, 1966, Manitoba's official flag was dedicated and unfurled for the first time. In 1986, May 12th was designated Manitoba Day in perpetuity, in recognition of the importance of this day in the history of the province.

The MHV is pleased to host a celebration of Manitoba's 150th TODAY! They will be commemorating with music, tributes and a virtual flag raising ceremony.

It will be made available on the MHV Facebook page at 11:00 a.m. for this time of thankfulness and appreciation.

Check the AM1250 Audio Vault for Robert Goertzen's conversation with AM1250's Michelle Sawatzky AND for the "Manitoba Song" itself by Gordon Watson.
