Worship in the City will happen this year in Steinbach but not at the Summer In The City festival site downtown. The organizers announced last week that worship in the city had to be cancelled this year after the two community leaders announced they had other commitments. Pastor Dave Dickey, co-chair of the Steinbach Ministerial Association, says it's a bit disappointing after the event drew about 3,000 people last year. But he adds the Ministerial Association decided Tuesday night it will still have an event on the Sunday of Summer In The City.

"There will be a worship component on that Sunday morning. We're returning to our roots down at K.R. Barkman Park. There are already at least eight churches taking part and that number will be growing as we are getting closer."

Worship in the City was held at the park from 2011 to 2016 and was then made bigger and moved downtown in 2017, adding various musical performances.

Pastor Dickey notes the ministerial felt it was very important that it still have an event during this city celebration of culture and arts.

"We thought with this city celebration, we wanted to celebrate the values and what we really enjoy about living in this community and certainly a big part of that is the faith component. And how better to do that than just collaborate on what we have in common and celebrate together like that."

Pastor Dickey says they plan to return to the downtown location next year and already have a committee working on that.
