An RCMP officer and a bystander rescued a woman drowning in the Red River in Ste. Agathe on Tuesday

At approximately 5:30 P.M., RCMP received a report of a female in distress on the PR 305 bridge spanning the Red River in Ste. Agathe.

Police say an officer attended and within minutes, the female was seen in the water being carried downstream, struggling to stay afloat.

The officer and a bystander jumped into the water and swam to the woman, bringing her back to shore. Once on shore, she was met by EMS and transported to hospital for further assessment.
