The wind warning for southeastern Manitoba has been lifted.

According to Environment Canada, early forecasts predicted sustained winds of 60km/h with gusts up to 90 km/h for the Steinbach area. Although, the strongest wind gust was recorded at 1 pm at 64km/h. Natalie Hasell a meteorologist with Environment Canada says the peak area for wind in Manitoba today, was reported in Dauphin at 102km/h at 12:30 pm.

Hasell says even though the wind warning has ended, strong winds are still expected to remain in the area until later this evening.

"The forecast is calling for sustained winds in the range of 50km/h with gusts up to 70km/h and those are expected t persist until 9 pm or so."

She explains the criteria for when a wind warning was to be issued here in Manitoba.

"The threshold criteria for a wind warning in Manitoba is a 70km/h or more sustained wind and or gusts of 90km/h or more."

Hasell notes we are fortunate here in southern Manitoba that the 130km/h winds which ripped through Saskatchewan and Alberta didn't retain their strength as they moved east.
