Niverville’s Chamber of Commerce is split regarding the number of magnet signs that should be allowed on Main Street.

Mayor Myron Dyck says Council approached the Chamber two years ago to ask for their input but has yet to receive a conclusive response.

“The business community is essentially split in that some very much feel they need the magnet signs as it has a huge benefit to their business,” explains Dyck, “and then there are others that have alternative signage availability.”

The Mayor says it’s probable that the decision will eventually have to be made by Council.

“Council currently is in the process of looking at redoing its bylaw in terms of advertising and signage on Main Street,” says Dyck before mentioning the difficulty of balancing aesthetic appeal and assisting local businesses.

The issue is not a new one, explains Dyck, and says they would like to reach out to the Chamber one more time to see if they can set Council in a certain direction.

“A lot of communities have been trying to curtail the magnet signs so they don’t muster,” shares the Mayor, “so, that’s where we are with that.”
