The Steinbach RCMP were called to the Steinbach Regional Secondary School after being notified of a youth carrying weapons in their backpack.

The airsoft gun and two knives had been safely separated from the youth without incident before police arrived.

Police say the youth was arrested under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. RCMP note the incident was handled with a great deal of professionalism on the part of the Hanover School Division and the Steinbach RCMP Detachment.

RCMP remind parents and students that there is a zero tolerance policy for weapons of any kind in any school and encourage parents to talk with their children about the matter.

The youth was later released on a Promise To Appear and Undertaking.
