The graduating class of 2018 from Ecole Pointe Des Chenes will toss their grad caps in the air Friday morning to celebrate the end of their high school journey.

The convocation ceremony is at 10:30 Friday morning at the Catholic Church in Ste. Anne. Principal Brian Martel says this is a diverse group but adds they are very involved in their own communities, whether it be the arts or sports.

"What makes this group special is that there is a real good mix of interests within that class. Some are very involved in terms of the arts and cultural activities, just different interests which makes the group very interesting."

Sylvie Dornez was chosen to represent her class and she says she is very excited to be graduating with her class.

"I’m super excited. It’s been 13 years that we were together so we’ve created a small family so I’m really happy to be able to share this experience with them," adds Dornez. She notes 16 out of the 19 graduates have been together since day one and in those 13 years, they've had a lot of great memories as a group.

"We got to go on a couple trips, we went to Ottawa in grade eight and a few of us went together to Europe this last spring. We went on hikes where students forgot sleeping bags and they had to sleep outside without them or we slept outside in the rain for a fundraiser, all these little moments that I’ll never forget with these students that I’ve grown up with basically."

Martel notes about nine out of the nineteen graduates will pursue post-secondary education the rest will seek employment opportunities or take some time to travel.
