The community of Mitchell now has a lot more walking paths.

According to the Rural Municipality of Hanover, they have constructed and reconditioned about 1.5 kilometres worth of pathways this year. This is a joint effort between Ward 2 of the Rural Municipality of Hanover and the Local Urban District (LUD) of Mitchell.

The work includes not only additional pathways but also a sidewalk along Ash Street. Hanover Councillor Brian Esau says the southernmost part of Mitchell can now connect to the arena, school and ballpark. He says this should address some of their safety concerns.

"We'd like to see that the children and pedestrians have a place to walk," says Esau. "That they do not have to walk on the streets."

So far they have spent approximately $225,000 on the project.

Esau says they will be adding more pathways once Manitoba Infrastructure decides what to do with Highway 52 in their community.
