The significant increase in the volume of pedestrians and vehicles around the Clearspring Middle School in recent years has prompted the division to conduct a traffic survey.

“We have a staff parking lot, a bus loop, a daycare parking lot, private parking and a private street all in one area,” comments Hanover Assistant Superintendent Shelly Amos, “so that area tends to get congested.”

Amos says the past few years have seen many new apartment complexes and houses pop up near the school, she adds that student enrollment has also grown. All of these factors contribute to the area’s busyness.

To combat this issue, the Hanover School Division commissioned a consulting company called Stantec to do a proper traffic study. Amos says the company set up surveillance cameras last week to measure the ebb and flow of traffic and are now in the process of creating a report.

“Next, we will take a look at what recommendations come from that report,” explains Amos, “from there we will determine what kind of an action plan we can make going forward to improve the safety of the traffic area.”
