Manitoba Infrastructure is doing traffic and pedestrian counts along Highway 52 west of Steinbach.

Larry Halayko is Executive Director of Construction and Maintenance. He explains they are using cameras to collect the necessary data. These cameras are set up on poles at some intersections.

Halayko says information they gather will be used for analysis for any potential future improvements in the area. He notes this is an annual check they are doing and does not mean change is imminent.

Manitoba Infrastructure is using Miovision cameras. This is new technology. In the past crews have used cords across the road or even had individuals literally counting and classifying vehicles as they pass.

"This new technology, you can take the information and get it analysed and get more accurate information," says Halayko.

According to Halayko, they have already used this technology several times in the Steinbach area and he says it has proven to be very effective.
