Three workers helped in the extinguishing of a fire Monday morning.

Steinbach Fire was called to trees on fire Monday morning at 10 on Penrose Crescent in Steinbach.

Seth Goertzen, owner of Silver Edge Builders, says he and two crew members, Kevin Funk and Michael Peters, were waiting for materials to arrive for their project when they saw flames growing larger and larger across the street.

"We were just looking over and we saw what looked like a bonfire in the backyard. The flames just slowly got bigger and bigger so we went to check it out and the trees were on fire."

Goertzen says there was someone else who saw the flames and was already calling 911 to have the fire department on-route.

"We looked for a [garden] hose to put it out as quickly as we could," recalls Goertzen. "We saw there was no hose so we just grabbed the next thing - bucket, pool, and just ran back and forth with three buckets - they had a backyard pool."

He adds they were doing their share as a community member and helping someone else out.
