Residents of Niverville flocked to the Hespeler Park yesterday for the towns 50th-anniversary celebration.

Niverville was incorporated as a village back in 1969 and became a full-fledged town in 1993.

Clarence Braun has lived in Niverville since he as born 63 years ago. He has been involved in the Niverville Chamber of Commerce, the towns ministerial board, and even served as mayor for two terms. He notes in the last 24 years, the population of Niverville has almost quadrupled and there is a good reason for that.

Pictured above are the many people who have served the town of Niverville over the past 50 years."There has always been a strong can-do attitude in the community like we have a people here that just believe in what is happening here and we have seen the results."

Current Mayor Myron Dyck says one story, in particular, encapsulates what makes Niverville special.

"When we had our gas line explosion in January about four or five years ago now, we set up a warming centre. It was a week of minus 40, people didn't have heat in their homes for a week or two due to that incident. We were prepared to give people a place to sleep, to eat and live and you know we didn't have one person show up. People that maybe didn't even necessarily know each other, reached out to one another and helped one another and that really is Niverville in a nutshell"

Dyck says Niverville’s strong sense of community is one of the reasons the town continues to grow and thrive.

The Town of Niverville 50th Anniversary Celebration was a day full of activities. The Festivities began with a community worship service in the morning, followed by a wide range of family activities, live music, live comedy, sports, speeches, and a community dinner. And finally, fireworks capped off the celebration with a bang.
