Some homeowners along Barkman Avenue may be wondering why they lost their water capabilities for a short time on Thursday.

Head of Steinbach Waterworks Mike Heppner says that was due to some repairs happening between Third Street and Fourth Street.

“There was a shut down during the time that we had to open up the mainline,” offers Heppner, "but everyone had their water back on by the end of the day and they shouldn’t be interrupted going forward.”

According to Heppner, a fire hydrant had been hit earlier in the spring and needed fixing below ground. This maintenance began on Thursday and required a water shut off in the immediate area.

“It was an older style of hydrant and they often don’t take impact very well,” comments Heppner, “so we had to go in there and replace the entire structure right back to the water main.”

The road is currently reduced to one lane as repairs are made, but Heppner expects the majority of the work to be completed by the weekend. Meanwhile, some construction supplies will remain on-site over the next few days as some asphalt, curb, and gutter touch-ups will continue in the coming week.
