Residents of Steinbach may have an easier method of transportation with a new ride-sharing service called TappCar, officially launching Wednesday morning.

Steinbach Mayor, Chris Goertzen states it is obvious the city is being recognized as a successful place to do business, and TappCar will provide a unique opportunity for Steinbach residents.

“We always welcome new businesses to our city. This is very exciting to be the first place, outside of a major center to welcome TappCar.”

TappCar is originally an Edmonton-based service, but Spokesperson John Morris explains he is excited to be able to move into a rapidly developing community like Steinbach.

“Steinbach is a fantastic place to do business and we chose it for a reason and that’s because it is one of the fastest growing communities in Manitoba”, says Morris,

Morris indicates TappCar will soon be looking to employ local residents as drivers, adding that they do have a meticulous screening process for both the drivers and their vehicles. “Customer safety is job number one,” declares Morris.

Morris reiterates TappCar’s hope to increase its fleet to ten vehicles and expand its perimeters that people here in Steinbach could get rides all the way to Winnipeg.

Goertzen expects TappCar to enhance Steinbach’s current public transportation industry saying, “We already have some great ride-sharing services in town, like taxis. And we know that we have a lot of citizens that do want to get around to visit their friends or to other businesses or to have a safe ride home and this just gives them one more option”.
