Council for the Rural Municipality of Tache is now one step closer to adding more lots in the community of Lorette.

Back in August, Chief Administrative Officer Christine Hutlet told Steinbachonline.com that Lorette has very few available lots remaining. She said everything is pretty much being built as either fill-in lots or there may be one or two lots remaining in the developments that were done back in 2013.

Tache has been working with Landmark Planning & Design to open up an additional 1.24 square kilometres worth of commercial and residential lots northwest of Lorette. The land is located north of Provincial Road 207 and between Heatherdale Road and Station Road. The municipality is in the process of undertaking a secondary plan, which ensures connectivity, including transportation, walking paths, green spaces and smaller commercial establishments for the next 25 years.

Tache Council held a public hearing on the matter last week. Mayor Justin Bohemier suggests between 40 and 50 people attended the hearing.

"Everybody's got mixed opinions, however, we feel that it was more to the positive side," says Bohemier. "People who do have concerns, they have very valid concerns and we want to address them correctly."

According to Bohemier, concerns have to do with the look of the end product.

"We're just basically setting up the framework for this area to be selected for redevelopment," he says. "So we're in a stage right now where it's very conceptual."

In fact, Bohemier says because of where they are in the process, he does not even know how many total lots could be developed on this site in the future.

"We want everyone to see what our intentions are to do in this area and it could be a number of years before it starts," he says. "We're kind of just waiting to see how long it's going to take to play it out."

Bohemier admits their intention was to give second and third reading to the plan, following the public hearing. However, he says some of the wording needs to be changed before they can make it official. Bohemier says after some minor tweaks, they should be ready for final approval of the Lorette Northwest Secondary Plan.
