The RM of Tache will hold a public hearing Monday evening (tonight) to get feedback on its proposed new zoning bylaw. Mayor Robert Rivard says council has given First Reading to the bylaw and the next step is a public hearing before it can consider final approval. He says the updated bylaw includes a lot of small changes to bring it up to date. He gives an example.

"Things like the height of buildings in a rural area. We've got it set now where it can't be above 18 feet. In a lot of rural areas, farmers have semi trucks and big combines that don't fit into a

Tache Mayor Robert Rivardbuilding of that height. They're always coming and asking for variances so we've just raised that height so it's more in line with what they are asking for."

Rivard adds the new zoning bylaw also changes the designation of Main Street in both Landmark and Lorette to accommodate a mixture of residential and commercial properties.

"We've changed the designation for our Main Streets. They're actually called Main Street now. It allows for a mixture of residential and commercial, light commercial, not industrial. So if a person's got a house on Main Street, it can stay a house on Main Street for as long as they want it to be a house. But if somebody else comes in and buys the property on Main Street and they want it to be a lawyer's office or a convenience store, that's allowed."

He expects most people will support the changes although he says they won't please everyone. Rivard says council feels the revised zoning bylaw will take Tache in a better direction in the future.

The hearing takes place Monday evening at 7:00 at the Tache office.
